Hi everyone, it’s S. K. from E-newcademy, and today we’re going to explore 5 cases of scam on higher education and online courses.
The purpose of this article is to warn you and show you how these cases were pure scams.Learn from these cases to spot pitfalls and avoid wasting money on worthless degrees !
The Internet world is a jungle, and there are many different kinds of scams, and online courses are no exception.
Before we get into the subject, you’ll be able to read articles on E-newcademy blogs that talk about accreditations such as OFQUAL or CHEA.
Don’t hesitate to read them, as they’ll be very useful before you make your choices.
Before getting into the heart of the matter, let me explain something.
ENACO is a French business school, and the RNCP is a state-recognized accreditation that regulates French and European training programs.
The problem with ENACO is that at one point its training programs were no longer recognized because they had not renewed their RNCP accreditation.
Students like Cheyenne got stuck after investing in ENACO’s unrenewed diploma mill program—harsh reality!
The worst part is that the former ENACO student only realized that her program was not recognized after she had obtained her diploma, which is ultimately only a FEDE diploma, an accreditation that is not recognized in France.
This situation is a disaster because we are talking about several years lost and a loan to repay despite everything.
To avoid this kind of situation, check whether the school still has its accreditation and whether this accreditation has an expiry date.
Don’t hesitate to contact the accreditors directly for more details.
It is better to take a week to find out more and make the right choice than to lose so many resources.
This university is not the only one to use unrecognized accreditations, and many universities and colleges use these fake accreditations.
Don’t fall for flashy diploma mill logos—research accreditation first!
These fake accreditations play on words to have a name that resembles official accreditations, or misappropriate certain legal terms.
For example, they may tell you that “laws in the U.S.A. prohibit the recognition of global accreditation associations” in order to exonerate themselves and gain the trust of others.
Schools can obtain these accreditations very easily: either they buy the image rights for the accreditation directly, or at best they are examined by accreditors who claim to be serious, but these accreditors have no government links.
It’s like ‘detox’ labels—diploma mill accreditations sound legit but aren’t!
It gives a real feeling of healthiness, but in reality, this term is not regulated and remains mainly a marketing ploy, which is not necessarily a guarantee of healthy food.
To avoid this, don’t hesitate to check government websites such as OFQUAL in the UK or CHEA in the US, where you can verify the legitimacy of the accreditation.
Please note that Zenith University College is a real and well-recognized institution.
However, other schools appropriate certain names either by including a prestigious term that is free of copyright or by remixing the word to circumvent copyright laws.
This results in a form of mimicry designed to deceive people and evoke a certain prestige or reputation that a school or program does not have.
This is why we refer to “Zenith University,” which is extremely confusing and could lead us to believe that it is a state-recognized university, which is misleading.
Another example is Cambridge Graduate University, which could easily be confused with the internationally recognized University of Cambridge.
Be vigilant about the name of the school, don’t hesitate to check the school several times, visit the official website of the recognized school, and only use that website.
You can also ask the question, for example:
“
Hello Cambridge University team,
Is Cambridge Graduate University one of your university’s branches? “
The list is long for universities, and there are many reasons why Bible colleges are not accredited.
At times, Bible colleges are not officially accredited because they only offer religious and theological courses.
Furthermore, these schools do not have the financial means to pay for accreditation, and they wish to provide a purely religious education outside of secular institutions.
Pastoral recognition and recognition within their religious communities is sufficient because their programs are mainly aimed at those who want to teach theology.
Those who want to study other subjects are not their target audience, so it does not make sense for them.
Some biblical universities and religious institutions offer training in other fields such as business, IT, and data.
This is the case with Bob Jones University, which has Christian accreditation but also nationally recognized accreditation, which can lead to confusion.
However, there may be originally biblical universities that offer a wider range of courses and manage to be recognized, such as Liberty University.
That’s why you should be careful when you want to study at a religious institution for non-religious courses.
At best, you will find an honest university that will tell you that they do not offer such programs, or else that they are accredited to offer them.
At worst, they may offer non-religious degrees without the necessary accreditation, in which case you should move on!
This school caused a scandal and was featured on French television many years ago.
Their inconsistencies were highlighted during the report.
SFU Paris trains psychology students, but its Austrian degrees fail France’s regulated standards
The problem? Professions such as lawyer, doctor, or psychologist are regulated professions.
You must first train at a school recognized by the country where you want to practice.
It turns out that SFU offers Austrian degrees that may entitle its students to practice psychology in Austria (but not in France).
Not only is this school expensive, but its teaching practices have also been heavily criticized because of a method that is more esoteric than psychological.
What can you do to avoid these scams?
It’s crucial to find out about the school, the course and its accreditations beforehand.
Always check the school’s reputation and its recognition by the state (or by a state-recognized accreditation body).
Ensure your diploma mill degree is valid locally and works where you plan to practice!
For regulated professions such as doctor, lawyer or notary, you’ll need both to train with a school located in the country where you want to work and to make sure that the diplomas are directly supervised by the issuing country.
For example: if you want to become a doctor in France, it’s crucial that you study medicine at a French university, and that your qualifications are regulated by the French Ministry of Education.
In general, always check the official government website for accreditations.
For British diplomas, you can look at the GOV UK website, while for American diplomas you’ll need to check with CHEA.
